Although I have too many great finds to choose from, this one normally creates the biggest buzz whenever I do local displays. People seem to like it more than the gold coins.
It's similar to the 18th C Cannon's, in that it was a working miniture. Able to be loaded with black powder & let off a bang as an after dinner entertainment (better than a party popper). This 17th C example was not so much a toy for a kid but for the refined Gentleman.

I have only found this 1, they are fairly scarce, and more importantly rare in this great condition. They are highly sort after & collectors pay a good price, compared to most UK artifacts.

I understand the draw to this artifact! what an incredible find! I am beginning to think that perhaps you & Crudad are the treasures.

Not sure if you skim read it, but unless you were Lord Fauntleroy, this was a far too expensive toy for a kid. Not impossible, just highly unlikely.

Got ya, . Amazing recovery nonetheless, I bunched it with the cannons but I see it is much rarer.

They are classed as 'Petronels', if you want to research. Yes much rarer.

Fascinating find! You must've been walking on air the whole next week after digging that musket! Andi
