JT: Real Nice! Besides Akers, Tennessee, & New Guinea, 1944, What else does the Canteen have etched in it? Is that a Jap Helmet?

The canteen says on the front...Akers Tennessee Hawaii 1943 New Guinea 1944 Philipinnes 1945

I have tried over the years to find out information about this man, however, he did not put his serial number on the canteen. The New Guinea campaign I read was extremely dangerous with major casualties. My wife is filipina and she lost both grandfathers who were in the US army. Finding military items has more meaning due to this fact.

Yes,

The canteen was found in the R.P. I have always wondered if Mr. Akers was KIA or if he was a POW and his canteen was discarded.
