New to the hobby this is my second year detecting. It all started with me buying a bounty hunter IV on a garage sale. I started at the front porch and just wandered towards the back yard. Keep in mind at this point I have no idea how to set a metal detector to discriminate against iron. BEEP, I dig a hole.......garbage iron. Second BEEP....more iron. Third BEEP, something octagonal about 6-8" down in the hole, I'm thinking a punch or chisel by the shape and size. I have about 5-6" of it exposed get a hold of it and I can't pull it out of the dirt. So I start making a bigger hole, turns out it's an octagon barrel Remington gallery special 22short pump action rifle. I WAS HOOKED!!!!!!! So far I've really only hunted my yard around my house. Through a lot of trash..........these are the treasures. Three pieces of silver, 1945 merc. dime,1936 walking liberty, and a spoon. Oldest coin so far 1924 wheat penny. Elizabeth II Regina necklace pendant. An aluminum tag from a whitefish net from 1930. A small copper tag that is stamped "OUT" on one side, and a good old tootsie toy open wheel racecar.
