Circa 1860 Navy Chief Petty Officer Button!

Now that I know what this is, I will call this my best find! I'm very excited about this. Thanks to PBK and EDDEKALB for providing me the quick ID. I found this last summer in downton Saginaw, MI in the middle of a torn up road. It was below a 3 inch layer of concrete, under a layer of bricks, and 4 inches into the HARD packed clay beneath the road. This baby was no doubt dropped well over 100 years ago. Apparently the rope being draped over the top of the anchor instead of below the anchor is the key to ID on this one. I can only imagine how this was lost or who it belonged to.

you are correct on the button ID, it looks like the mfg. was the scovill co. the buttons have not changed much over the years, I have some like that on my old uniform coat. nice find.
