DSC01090.JPG First post for this, its a cartridge case plate and a music core button I believe...found this last early spring!! 10 to 12 inches under ground!! same size as a belt buckle...

I looked on EBay and found a button like this one --said it was a cw button if anyone can put a definite fix on this I would appreciate it. button and plate are from near corning NY .

Awesome finds! Just my non-expert opinion but I think that button is older than Civil War era, maybe War of 1812 or before. Does it have a back mark?

I have seen a button like that before & it is not Civil War era. Congrats on the plate though, that definitely is!

Here's the one my friend found. By the backmark Id say its post 1900, I'm not sure if he ever got a solid ID though.

Ok, it looked like a flat button in the first picture that's why I thought it was older. They can be hard to date without a back mark but someone may be able to give you an idea.

I have dreams of finding a plate like that. Not sure this old heart could take it. It skips a beat every time a three ringer falls out of the dirt for me. Congrats on some great finds.
