I found this barber quarter 3/6/16.
it's my best and only silver coin. I've hunted helping my dad when I was younger, but now I've really got the bug. My dad is now my digging buddy, he had to have surgery so he is just now getting to where he can swing again. We go every chance we get. Found a bunch of clad stuff, a few bullets this year. My dad found a 1824 Spanish realle 8 too. uploadfromtaptalk1465483742230.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1465483751923.jpg

Wow, Great finds - Congratulations! Start with soap and hot water, a toothbrush and a toothpick to clean the Spanish silver. Some of the other members may school you on how to use baking soda. :occasion14:

Very nice coins.

One of the guys will come along shortly, and clue you into the tinfoil/baking soda/hot water method of cleaning silvers. Be really careful... as you MIGHT not run into a lot of those 8 reals!

Wow man that will clean up nice. Great find. I cleaned my 1733 with with baking soda and tin foil. Line a glass dish with tinfoil shiny side up. It dosent have to be super smooth let it stay a little wrinkled on the bottom. Place coin on tin foil it must be touching foil and foilshould be shiny side up for best results. Take about 2-4 teaspoons of baking soda and put them in about 1/2-1/3 of a cup of water. Stir well. Heat this solution to boiling in a microwave. Take out of microwave with oven glove and pour it all at once over coin in tinfoil lined dish. You may have to do this a few to a dozen or so times. In between each bath you should clean your coin with soap and water. Best advice would be to go online and watch as many videos as possible of the process. There are quite a few. I watched as many as I could. And it still took me quite a while to work up the nerve to do it to my reale. I practiced on other less valuable siver coins and other silver objects until I was comfortable with the process. It worked well for me and I never put anthing abrasive on the coin.

Well I got the Reale cleaned up.. took lemon juice and some salt soaking. Turns out it's an 1821! The baking soda tin foil just turned it a red color. A few hours in the juice did this. Me and my dad found it on a historic cabin site in cave spring. We are donating it to them, they are putting it on display in the cabin when it's finished. 20160918_173159.jpg 20160918_173134.jpg
