Since I have little time to detect I'd love to see everybody's 4 favorite silver finds. Coins, relics it makes no difference. But if you have a silver buckle we are not friends. I've found more than 20 shoe buckles and I've never even sniffed a damn fragment of silver. Well here's a few of mine. This was tough. I hope to see lots of others favorite silver finds

#1. 1652 Pine Tree Shilling NOE 29

2. 1749 Mexico mint Pillars and Globe 1 Real. This beauty was found at a mill site that one of my ancestors owned with his business partner. They only had a cabin there. No foundation and no sign that anything was ever there. It took me a very long time to find this site. When I finally did it produced more than 20 pre 1750 coins. This being the only silver. Most were in amazing condition which was due to several factors. The cabin was on the edge of a river with well draining beautiful soil. Perhaps the biggest factor was the fact that this site was long gone by 1770 or so. So these coins did not circulate for very long. Most of the coins were dated 1749 and were shipped from England to Massachusetts Bay as reimbursement for assistance with the Lewisburg expedition in Nova Scotia.

#3. Colonial Silver Scottish Luckenbooth Brooch. Being Scottish and Irish this was on my dream list as I always wanted to find one but thought the chances were slim. I stumbled upon this site looking for a much earlier site and a terrible signal produced this beauty. I was a very happy boy the day I found this awesome relic

#4. 1772 Real Converted into a Cufflink or Button. Love this Spanish that was turned into a cufflink or a button. Also found a Rev War era sling buckle there. Rev War camp maybe???? I will likely never know but I'm glad somebody dropped this

Breaking my own rules but after seeing the 1782 from VMI it brought back great memories of the first 2 Spanish I ever found....which were both 1782-2 Reales. I’ll also add in the 1664 cob I found with the tree coin and a really nice 1802 real.

Ahaha Ahab! All rules are out the window! It's gonna rain silver now! I have a 1782 Two Reale myself with the same break in the "8" like both of yours.

Nice! This is kind of embarrassing but I never noticed the break in the 8. Thanks for pointing that out. I was a newbie when I found those.,

Thanks Ahab, I think I bent the rules a little too much so It's not your fault. ;D
Incredible coins you posted! :icon_thumright:

Don't put down the Luckenbooth brooch as it's older than my three "Owl" brooches.....

P1090336.JPG

Ooops, there I go breaking the rules again!

Thanks also Steve, the first picture of 4 brooches came from a different site than the remaining silver.
I have big plans to sift that large cache area, as I found some random bone hair tubes and a few unused gun flints digging up the silver, so I'm hoping for some major bead action there!

Now that I got some of this silver out of the way, how 'bout a thread full of sexy iron? :headbang:

Man, that trade silver just blows my mind. I imagine there is still some to be found a few hours from me in Ohio.

Here is my Four More Encore :headbang:

My only piece of Indian trade silver in honor of Muddyhandz sharing his insane collection.
A lowly silver tinkler found on an early site (1758 to about 1790) along the road to Fort Pitt
Tinkler.jpg
In honor of the Luckenbooth brooches pictured above, here is a fragment I found at a 1780-1800 house site along another stretch of the same colonial road.
Brooch.JPG

An engraved silver foil over a diamond shaped piece of brass. The name on the foil is "Jno Morphe" Further research through early maps and tax records revealed that John Murphy was a tavern keeper first showing up on the 1796 tax rolls, again in 1806 and 1817. That a tavern stood here makes sense as I have found 17 Spanish silvers, the 1803 Draped Bust Dime above, over 50 coppers and over 200 buttons. The newest coin was an 1830 Capped Bust half dime. Which makes sense because John Murphy died in 1835 at the age of 70. He is a picture of his grave, which makes my attachment to this site even more personal.
Diamond ID piece.jpg John Murphy.jpg

Finally, I seem to have a pretty tough time finding Capped Bust silver. I should find more considering the places I've hunted. Here is one of my only two pieces, an 1827 dime.

Coins had no use in the fur trade, which was our colonial history.

This cache of 4 silver trade brooches were guarded by the thickest bush ever.....

View attachment 1516047

The Robert Cruikshank star brooch was big for me as star brooches always seemed to be cut up into single points (perforated) and hung as jewelry or tassels for garb.

View attachment 1516049

This next silver cache contains the three remaining on my top four silver finds list.
It all has been catalogued and stored in a safety deposit box so, the pictures I have are limited.

Always wanted to find a big ear wheel and this one's special.....

View attachment 1516053

Dreamed of finding a thicker silver Lorraine cross and got my wish in two pieces!

View attachment 1516055

Here's the other side showing the maker mark.....

View attachment 1516062

I apologize for all that other stuff in the photo like bracelets, ear-bobs, crosses, and brooches.
Had to show them because of a poor single photo of my #1 top silver find which is a silver gorget....

View attachment 1516059

This first signal was a "RC" large circular brooch, then came the earwheel and by then I was flipping out!
When I tried next to the hole and got an even bigger blast, the thoughts "please be a gorget" actually came into my head and there it was!
Then I got to dig a whole lot more!

I really enjoyed looking at everyone's silver finds. :icon_thumright: Thanks for sharing!

I was just getting over those pics from the last time I saw them, and there you did it again, talk about renting space in the old head. Thanks for doing the post up Mudz, eye candy finds at their best.

Steve that brooch would have been a real stunner my friend! Shame it's broken. As for the capped silver....I have none. No draped either. I'm going to start hunting more modern sites to help my chances

GRINCH 2 530.jpg GRINCH 2 533.jpg GRINCH 2 531.jpg Here's my favorite. Got the honkin chain at the beach this year( I guess a MLB player lost it body-surfing) My only 2 reale an cut ever dug,a seated quarter, an a cool little lock. The lock was found in a union camp, so there is an excellent chance that the intertwined script letters are the initials of a soldier and his sweetheart. I sure hope he made it back home to be with her after the war. love this thread this stuff is stellar stellar stellar!!!

Ken thanks for contributing to the thread. I'm still searching for capped or draped silver. You've got a couple of beauties. And Spanish silver is always a welcome site.

Thanks and you're welcome. I also had a 1/2 Reales, but the detail isn't so good.

Thanks Abe, it's too bad the brooch wasn't in one piece. A couple guys took me to a site the had hit together at least 5 previous times. After I found that and a number of other relics, they said I had to go sit in the truck. But they both went out and bought Deus after that day.
