Early officer button

Found this in Norfolk in the 1990s. Alberts has it listed as an early 1800s U.S. infantry regiment officer's button, with relative value of 50. Shame mine is missing the shank, and has some damage on the face. The back has a miniature eagle and "treble plated" on it. The front has "e pluribus unum," "U. S. I.," and "Reg't" on it. Any details as to date, etc., would be most welcome - Alberts is not always as clear as it could be about such things.
