That's a beauty you got there. I have found about 150 in the last 2 yrs and still haven't found the 1877. That's a great find. I think I may strike one one day because my main finds are indians. That would have been a shock when I saw it was a 1877. Glad you cleaned it up and posted it. Let's me know there's one out there for me to find possibly.

Good Luck Jer

That is a nice coin. I got one I still have but without a detector. I was at a antique show and got it our of a box for $5!!!!

Now go after the 1793 Chain Cent...I knew the guy that dug one in N VA a few years back.

Nice find!

Just going by what I see from the pic, I wouldn't be surprised if you have a $500.00+ coin there.

I kind of put that one in the back of my ehad in the hopes that I might actually dig one up some day!

Way to go!

It doesn't matter Root. DO NOT TOUCH THE COIN> Leave it alone and take it to an expert. do not sell to expert. Just hang on to it you can have it graded but you have to send it away and I believe since it is circulated there is only a couple of services available for this. Look in the coin thread and see or I think Jeff Of PA is the Man to ask.

PCGS list this coin 1877 BN in Good condition (as yours looks to be) for $650 fair market value. An Ebay sale would bring you at least $500.

Nice find,

Swanie,Today in doing some research on a IH I have I came across some info that states Lots of counterfeits exist, particularly of coins dated 1877 and 1909-S and to a lesser extent, the 1864 "L", the 1866 to 1878 issues and the 1908-S. Recommends that all date coins should be authenticated.Hope you have the real McCOY.Best of luck.
