Treasure Ann,
Great find! I have found lots of horse related items but not a bit like that. When I was about six years old my grandfather gave me three work horse bits similar to yours (he used them at one time). They were a gift for my birthday and I still have them sixty four years later. Two are hanging on my living room wall and one is hanging in my garage. On some ranches I have seen them fastened to the wall and used near the bathroom sink as towel bars.

Thank you! How wonderful that your grandfather gave you those bits, thank you so much for sharing this with me. Now you have given me some ideas, I will restore this bit and use it in my new upstairs bathroom. :)

Let me think, Um Nova Scotia? Shouldn't that be Ann with an "e"? I have a daughter that was really into Ann of G.G. I couldn't help but mention it. Good Huntin' to ya.

That would be Prince Edward Island, for Ann"e" of Green Gables :) I love that story. I can see PEI across the Northumberland Strait from my backyard, on a good clear day. Thank you!

Could This Bridle Be From The 1835 Blacksmith Shop at Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia

This has to be my favourite find, although I tend to have many favourites ;) 1800's bridle bit, intact. Now sure exactly the age but there was a blacksmith shop and coach house here around 1850(could be earlier) to early 1900's.

Just By Chance?

The first recorded history of a Blacksmith Shop at Tatamagoughe, was in 1835.

It was built in 1835 by Neil Ramsey, from Prince
Edward Island. He was a blacksmith by trade and had
his house and forge in what is now the garden of the Misses
Blackwood, close to the church lot and near the Back
Street. He did a great deal of the iron work for the ships
and subsequently went, in a small measure, into shipbuilding.
