I'm going to take the cue from GWdigger and Iron Patch and post my top ten list also. The bottom half of this list was pretty weak when I first posted this list but its starting to get a little better. I will try to improve it each time I get out. I will start from 10 and count down to 1. Here goes.....

#10....1864 two cent piece. This was actually the first good old coin i found so it holds a place in my heart. It's in pretty good condition for a dug coin. The detail in the shield is very crisp.
IMG_0293.JPG

#9....King George II halfpenny. This is the only KG I have ever dug. It's in pretty poor condition or it might be higher on the list.
IMG_0864.JPG

#8....1876 CC seated liberty dime. I found this coin lying on top of the dirt in a plowed field. It's kind of strange that it has a Carson city mintmark because i found it in upstate New York.
IMG_0999.JPG

#7....Colonial era stirrup. What made this find so cool is that I was able to ID it from a picture in a Revoltionary War artifact book that I have. It's literally identical.
IMG_0770.JPG

#6....1846 braided hair large cent. (tall date variety) This is the best large cent I have found in terms of condition.
IMG_1042.JPG

#5....1787 Vermont copper (Bust right, "Vermon...Auctori")The reverse of this coin is very weak. It was only made in 1787 and 1788. If this coin were in better condition, it might be higher on the list.
IMG_1044.JPG

#4....1809 classic head half cent. This coin was a surprise. I thought it was a 2 cent piece judging by the size. It's not perfect but it has a readable date and a legible "half cent:" on the reverse. It's my only half cent found to date.
IMG_1099.JPG

#3....1797 draped bust large cent. I found this coin on the same day I found the half cent (above). It was a pretty good day for top ten list finds. The coin below (#2 on the list) was also found at the same site but on a different day. It's in pretty good condition for such an old large cent.
IMG_1100.JPG

#2....As stated above, found at the same homesite I found the half cent and the large cent. 1787 New Jersey copper. (Maris 63-s variety) This coin has some pretty good detail left. Don in SJ was able to attribute the variety (thanks Don) and he included it on a study he was doing of dug New Jersey coppers. It was a thrill to find this coin.
IMG_0836.jpg
IMG_0837.jpg

#1....1786 Vermont colonial copper. ("VERMONTENSIUM") Good condition for a dug coin. When I dug this coin I thought at first it might have been a large flat button with the shank broken off where the eye is on the back of the coin. I was pleased when I found out it was a large copper coin. This was my first dug large copper that I was able to ID. It's in such good condition that it will always be very high, if not #1 on this list.

Thanks alot for looking.

Love that Colonial stuff. I think your appraiser was a bit optimistic on the octagon button but it is sweet none the less. I also have one that is silver plated and is likely my nicest.

I hope others jump in with their lists. Out the door in 5 minutes to try for an upgrade.

Thanks for the response Iron patch. The estimate sounded kind of high to me also. I'm not a button collector so I really have no idea. I'm starting to find alot of them so I might go get a good button book. Can anyone offer some suggestions on what book I should buy? I hope you get a few goodies to upgrade your list.

Re: OK..Here is my top ten list of best finds.

Thanks for the replies guys. I found a better braided hair large cent (1846) that I would replace that 1847 with. I'll modify the list some time in the near future.

I can't say that I do RELICDUDE. But here are a couple more close up pictures of them for you. They were found in an area of farm field that I found late 1700's -mid 1800's artifacts and coins in. Can you date them fron these closer pictures?

I'd say last part of the 18th century.

Here's a picture of the finds I've recovered from the site where I found most of this top ten list. Lots of good stuff in there.
