I WAS HOPING FOR ANY INFORMATION ANYONE COULD GIVE ME ABOUT THIS
SUNDIAL.
I HAVE NOT HAD MUCH LUCK DOING A SEARCH FOR THIS, I DO KNOW THAT
MEL FISHER OR HIS CREW GOT ONE SIMILAR TO THIS OFF OF A SHIPWRECK
FROM THE FLORIDA COAST.

THE TOP AND BOTTOM ARE THREADED AND SCREW IN, THERE IS A GLASS PIECE
STILL INTACT AND THE PART THAT POPS UP TO FORM THE SUNDIAL.

THE CASE IS COPPER OR BRASS, AND HAS NO MARKING ON IT WHATSOEVER THAT
I CAN SEE.

ANY INFO OR RELATIVE VALUE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I can't really give you much info except that I found this one in a circa 1900's farm yard , last year. Same type of screw cap as yours, missing the compass needle. No marks on mine either. Good luck on resaerch as I'd be curious to know more about mine. Dan

They're not really all that common. I sold antiques for decades and never actually saw one. I have a small collection of sundials but have never come across anything that good. Nice find!

If you were an Antiques dealer do you have any kind of an estimate of value... ?
If it was yours for sale, what would you price it at....

$100 ?
$200 ?
$500 ?
$1000 ?

Just wondering

Mel Fisher in Key west does have one on display, sans glass I think, I was under the impression that the astralabe was the forerunner of the sextant, yet they are displayed side by side in the Atocha display. (1622) any clue ?

Now that's what I call once In a life time find. Congrats

I've had several of those type of finds....
some I still have... (hence the sundial..) Some I do not...

I had a flintlock mechanism from a Brown Bess Rifle that still had the flint...
I traded it out toward a machine... that did not find me another one...

I have had several Slave Tags in my poosesion... I cry myself just thinking about them
anyway .. water under the bridge...
