Let me start this post by saying, I don't think I've ever found anything truly worthy of being posted here... until this past August.
I found this piece in a bean field that archeologists had dug for almost 4 months the previous summer.
To-date, I have recovered over 60 coins and almost as many buttons from this site!

"As always, I would like to thank the arkies for leaving a beautiful looking horse rosette for me to find! :laughing7: Now, I’ve found a lot of rosettes in my nine years of detecting, but this example has more detail then any I’ve ever seen before. Coming out of the ground, it looked smooth as a baby’s bottom, it was only after giving it a warm bubble bath that the details started to appear. After a couple of passes on a fine brass wire wheel polisher, a liberal slathering of Museum Conservator’s Wax and a final polishing with a buffer wheel, you can see the results. Originally it was likely silver-plated on brass."

I have included pics of the foundation of the homestead, as well as, how the site looked that the arkies had uncovered last summer.
Also shown is a pic of how I have it displayed along with some other finds from this site.

Dave

Dave, I'm shocked they didn't do a metal detecting survey first. Anyways, what an amazing collection all from one site!

A metal detecting survey isn't part of the 'standard procedure' of archeology here in Ontario.
The lead arkie did tell me that they did a field-walk here prior to breaking ground and they found over 400 pottery and glass frags.

At that point I could've told him that I found a lot more then that in my past 4 years of detecting here. :laughing7:
