I found this about 6" down while detecting on private property near Green Lake, WI on 10/18/19 just as I was about to hang it up for the day due to rain and a setting sun. I had it authenticated by a senior archeologist Stevens Point, WI who said that is indeed the real deal and was between 2,000-6,000 years old and was most likely on the earlier end of that time period due to the step in the shaft and that considering the area in which it was found indicated that it was most likely used for fishing.

As a kicker for the day I also found these two Barber dimes earlier about 10 feet from each other, the 2016 first followed by the 2014. All were found with my White's Matrix M6 detector outfitted with a Detech 13" Ultimate DD search coil, definitely a day to remember for me.

Keep Swingin'!!![

Very nice North American artifact that would be worthy of framing.

The fact that some act of nature or a plow hasn’t gotten it by now is just as astounding as the point itself PD...and you did incredibly well to not hack it up yourself! Welcome from a fellow Wisconsinite, it looks like you are doing as well as it gets. Congratulations on finding yet another CC item that WONT wind up in a box in the archives...and the dimes add a VERY nice touch!

What a fantastic copper spearhead! That is on the very long list of things I want to find. Thanks for sharing that with us!

Excellent Copper Culture spearpoint! But I was a little surprised by the dates on those two sweet Barbers :laughing7:
As a kicker for the day I also found these two Barber dimes earlier about 10 feet from each other, the 2016 first followed by the 2014.

Thank you for all of the positive feedback, as we all know, a huge part of the thrill of detecting is sharing the amazing items that we all uncover with other like minded people.

Ten days after finding my first Copper Culture artifact, I was lucky enough to unearth another beautiful example of prehistoric craftsmanship at the same site, along with some bonus silver and a nice little token.

Two days later, I found what an archaeologist said was likely a hafted knife fragment of the same period as the spearheads.

Then yesterday I came across this Middle Woodland Hopewell-Style Copper Axe, which I'm told were often included in high status burials and rarely recovered as isolated finds.

Until the ground is frozen, I know where I'll be spending my spare time!

Keep Swingin'!!!

Those are some great finds .... iv seen spear heads and arrow heads found but not very often do you see a copper axe .... that’s incredible! You should post this under the Native American Indian artifact forum I’m sure it would be well received

Those are lifetime finds!!! Good thinking to have authenticated by an Archeologist:hello2: Consider volunteering your metal detecting expertise to Archeologists in your area - as they could invite you on some of their field work. I've been doing that for about the last 3 years and it finally paid off for me last summer.

The spearhead and hatchet are just............... BEAUTIFUL.
I would be beside myself if I found something like that.
I'd be sleeping with them.
