Metal Detecting
It’s been five years since I’ve last posted
and boy do I have a lot of catching up to do.

Quite recently, About three weeks ago I was detecting parking strips
in a somewhat old area of Austin during late afternoon. I was approached
by guy that wanted me to come and see what I could find in the empty lot
next to his house.(also his property)

The sun was almost down but I did have my headlamp
so how could I pass that up.
Immediately I saw an old Stonewall on the property as well as
an old massive Live Oak.
I dug a few pull tabs then decided to focus
on the base of the old tree.

Just as the sun was sure as set I got a fairly good signal nestled in the roots.
Nothing special, rang up as a good solid 83.
(Rocking a Garret AT Pro)

I dug four or five inches down
And coins started spilling out
the sides of the hole.

Was my first old coin “cache”.

A few days later after some research
I found out that was the site of an old hunting lodge
that overlooked Shoal Creek.

Out of that one hole I pulled:

• 1898 Barber quarter
• 1915 Barber quarter
• 1930 Standing liberty quarter
• 1914 Barber half dollar(1930)
• 1907 Barber dime
• 1896 Indian head penny

• 6x liberty head nickels(most to corroded to date)(one 1910)
•A good luck token
•1942 S Penny(strangely corroded like zinc???)

And In excellent condition..
•1942 Mercury Dime

Due to the 50 year date difference
I assume it must’ve been a kids collection buried around the end of World War II.

If anyone can help me ID this token it would be much appreciated.
