If I'm able, I usually go on a road trip each year to do a little detecting. This year I ran across a spot that ended up being my best silver day yet. The ground was literally hard as concrete from the drought. I honestly had to go to a hardware store and buy a hammer and chisel so I could get down to the coins. At the end of the day I was worn completely out, but was able to find silver in the double digits. It was also my first time hitting a dime trifecta...and if you count that French 50 centimes in the middle on the bottom row, a quad. I went back there the next day and got three more silver coins and my first silver thimble. I wish spots like this were common, but they don't happen very often. At least not for me.

Great hunt! That was certainly worth buying the hammer and chisel for...

Nice finds, grats and thanks for sharing. I see a Colorado tax token and I am wondering if you came here for your trip and did so well? Also, where's the silver thimble?

I wasn't in Colorado, but I have hunted there before. Here's the finds from the following day, including the thimble. Thanks for the reply!

Nice thinmble! The only silver one I have dug is smashed very similar. Thanks for the follow up pic. Those aluminum tax tokens are found often here and they are almost always a dissapointment. However, I just dug one the other day at a newly scraped lot and it must have came outta the house as it is in perfect uncirculated condition. Couldn't have been in the dry dirt more than a day or two. I got no silver that hunt and only 3 wheats, however...

HH ALL!
