I was just recently reading a story of a ship that blew up and sunk off the NC coast in June 1838. They have just found the wreckage. But it when you look at the ship, it looks like the ship in the Pocket Watch cover i found a few years back. I have always loved this piece. I just looking at it closer i found number on the case. In searching i have not see one like it yet. the number look like 339329.
here is a story about the Pulaski Steamship and also pictures of the pocket watch cover that i found. The watch covers measures 58.5 mm so a little larger than a silver dollar. I do not think the ship on my watch cover is the Pulaski, but it is a ship like it, which make me think this watch is from that time period around 1838. I found it in my Civil War Camp in Wilson County, NC on the Wilmington/Weldon Railroad.
