2007-Best Finds Issue-April-2008.I highly recommend this treasure magazine to everyone.

I was very fortunate to dig 11 Slave Tags in 2007.My wife is my digging partner and has dug four tags. She kills me on buttons and silver. :)

In January of 2007 I dug an extremely rare Lafar 1813 CARPENTER Tag...Only four known.

In March I dug an 1837 MECHANICK (sic) (German Style of spelling)...Less than ten known.

I also dug this 1844-SERVANT in January-07 and my wife dug the 1856-SERVANT two weeks ago.

My wife dug the 1832-PORTER in July of 2005.

I dug the 1846 W.W.Wilbur Slave Auctioneer's Token with the eight December tags.

Enjoy.and thanks for looking........B.H.

I wish I was into metal detecting when I was stationed at Charleston Naval Base. The only thing I knew to hunt were the shark teeth in the cooper river. I found tons on the base.

Those are truly awesome finds. I appreciate your sharing them with us.

Those are very cool. There is not much of a chance of digging any of those here, north of the Mason DIxon line.

What range do the tags fall in? Do they come up as foil?

That is simply amazing! I could only hope to find something like one of those. I still can't understand how, with all the information on the web, that some people still can't understand that slavery before the civil war was just a way of life for the plantation owners. I mean think about this. The plantation owners had thousands of acres to farm and they had to have help. No tractors back then, only mules, so how else were they going to harvest? Even the "great" Abraham Lincoln, owned slaves. I guess that "real" history is only taught in the south. I am sorry, not meaning to offend anyone, but I, for one, am proud of my heratige. I just recently learned that my great, great grandfather owned slaves and freed them and gave them land of their own before he left to fight for Southern Independance. Tim
