Two Big 8's.

As recently seen on Treasurenet...my best finds are my two 8 reales...I consider myself to be very lucky to have found two in such nice condition.
1798 and 1774 8 reales. Both are Mexico mint.

The 1798 was found in November of 2006 in a private yard about 3 inches down. The 1774 was found a couple weeks ago in a pasture about 4 inches down. Both recovered while metal detecting.

And as everybody here knows, these 8R's were valued and used as a United States dollar previous to the coinage act of February 1857. That was a lot of money to lose back then! The wealthy investors
of the time bought large tracts of Western land for pennies/acre. You are certainly lucky, and I know
the hard work it takes to make great finds like these. 3 Cheers for the 8's !

Actually the only thing I did to clean them was to run some water over them and a light brushing with a soft bristle toothbrush. This is how they looked coming out of the ground!! Thanks for the comments!

Romeo they are fantastic. I just want to sit and look at them. I can't imagine what it was like to hold such old coins.

Not only have you had the pleasure twice, but both recovered examples have excellent detail.

I do not recall every detail of the original circumstances...

just how exactly did you go about selling your soul to the Devil?

The deal with the devil will need to be made for number 3 I think...just dumb luck on 1 and 2.
