Thanks for the links Jeff

any info about them.
It sure would be nice to get a certificate like GC received congrats GC
Cool...I found an alligator tag a few years ago on the RR tracks...
right beside his bleached out bones. Apparently he didn't quite make it across the tracks. A F&G friend of mine tracked down the info and it was very interesting to see how much you can learn from such a small tag.

These things are kind of interesting. I've never heard of collecting bird bands. How often do you find them? They have to be a pretty rare item to pick up. Out of all the places I've been, and all the dead birds I've seen, I've never found one with a band. I just recently attended a banding program for Saw Whet owls. The whole idea is fascinating. Please post more. Thanks, bg

It seems Places I Find one, I Usually find Others.
I Believe there are more out there then we Realize
But because of Size & Being Mostly Aluminum
they get Missed by alot.
I do not duck hunt but we have a lot of wood ducks on my lease. One hunter took a woodie that was banded in Maryland. I am in Tennessee. The duck hunters wear the bands around their necks with their calls. They always report the numbers to help with the good people who work so hard on the migration and number counts.
Pretty cool finds and they soar so far. Nice collection.

Those are pretty neat,we had a bird fly into our window the other day and knocked himself out while he was dazed I was able to see a band on his left leg,but the writing was so small I could only make out 2 numbers. How do you find yours.

LOL Kool ! alligator tag ?
What does that look like ?
Don't think I'll find one of them Here though
It was a solid metal band kind of thick..I'm guessing probably 2" long with numbers on it. This was in Lousiana...and there are many, many alligator farms there. In order to have an alligator farm, you are required by law to release a certain % of them back into the wild when they are mature enough. I think it is 20%. The rest go off for food, watches, purses, etc...
The alligators who are released into the wild are all tagged which is another requirement. The one I found on the tracks was approx. 10' or so. According to the tag he was realeased when he was around 4' and the farm was located close to 40 miles away. I can't remember how close to the area he was released, but I do remember it was not that close. He must have done some travelling.
