Buy English walnuts, split them open and clean out the shell, make a hole at the butt end in both halves to pour into, hold the two halves together by clamping in a small vise and pour your metal.

Non-detectorist, but I do enjoy the stories of people finding treasure.

You can also buy a lump of charcoal and carve it out as a receptacle to smelt into...

Also one of the most basic sorts of casting is done with cuttle fish. Saw through it vertically, crush the shape you wish to produce between the halves - put a couple of groves in the edges so you can line the halves up again after removing what ever item you used to form the shape. Cut a channel leading to the shape and wrap wire around the cuttlefish to keep it together... then pour in the liquid metal.

The cast will need cleaning up afterwards and the sprue removing but its good for basic shapes.

I saw an article somewhere, a guy bought little birthday cake candles shaped like animals, etc. He put them into soup cans of plaster. When the plaster hardened he carefully dug down to the top of the candle, making a little funnel. He then put the thing in the oven upside down over a container and melted out the wax , after the wax is gone the metal can be poured in.
