A few items from my display

I tried to go detecting today but the ground was froze solid from no snow cover. So I thought I would take a few photos of part of my display of iron from lumber camps from the last 35 years of digging. 99% of the fine folks of Tnet could care less about this stuff, but the other 1%, enjoy.

Trusty, you have a good eye for guns. Yes it is. It has an octagonal barrel and is stamped 'Winchester Repeating Arms'. With the dates of March 18 and Oct 16, 18?0. I can't make out the 3rd number in the date. Maybe you could help me out on that one. I never found a gun until I found that one two years ago at a lumber camp and 4 days later I found the octagonal gun barrel above it at a house site.

I love the way you have displayed your collction. The contrast of colors really shows it off. It would be creapy to be chased through there at night though. Looks like a room from Jason with all those hooks.

I really appreciate this post, lumbercamp...even though I have no idea what most of that stuff was used for. The contrast between the white walls and shelves and the relics is stunning.

What are these thingies that look like duck's heads??

Re: A few items from my display

Around here they're called goose necks or log ******ers. They were placed in log slides with the pointed end up to slow the logs down when they got going to fast. Only trouble was they chewed the logs up pretty bad. I have found quite a few broken ones from the force of the logs breaking them.

Seger98, I'm from north central Penna. And thanks to all the nice comments from everyone. I wasn't sure if people were really interested in these kind of relics. TreasureTales, I don't think they used spring boards in this part of the country. I have never seen one in any photos or read about them being used here. They must be more of a western item.

Re: A few items from my display

Littlebird13, I have no idea where the lumber camps are located. I pick a run or hollow that i haven't been to and start walking. The last two days I found 5 and dug 4. I will go back and dig the 5th when I have more time. A year ago or so I replied to someone else how I find lumber camps, but I don't know how to bring the post up. Maybe someone else can do it.
