One of the towboats on the lower Miss. river. The M/V Crimson Glory is pushing a tow that is 7 barges long and 6 barges wide. That's 1400 feet long and 210 feet wide. If I remember right that's about 7 to 8 acres of surface area that he is pushing up the river. If the barges were loaded it would be the equivalent of 630 train hopper cars or 2436 tractor trailer rigs. Pretty impressive!!

Always thought it would be cool to buy one of those and live on it when I retire. Could put a pool, carport and nice treasure hunting rig on it.

The barges are a very important part of moving the loads in this country.
I worked for a time loading them in Ft. Smith AR.

Hey Fossis,

I will be going thru the Fort Smith/Van Buren area in a day or so. Coming south out of Catoosa heading to Cinncinati, Ohio with this load of fertilizer. And you are right. This industry moves more than the others and we do it cheaper than they do. We just don't have a good public image or public relations person promoting this industry.
