Yep, it was loaded, we were in 'prime country' for black bear, & mountain lions.

OK Judie tell us how you make the tea from the roots.

You just boil the roots, & add sugar

Rinse good to remove dirt, then boil, and to serve hot add a little water & sugar. To make a sweetened tea, boil good at a slow boil to get a good strong brew, add sugar while still hot, then cool it down and add more water. I like it better cold. I can't give the amount of water, cups of sugar, or how many roots. You have to use your own judgement.

The last pic is an 'impression' of a (Calamite plant), there was a coal mine just south of here, & I
(over the years), have found petrified wood, ferns, 'Pyritized Ammonites' in shale, plus Chocopyrite, (blue, green golden) colored stone.
Most mts in this area have fossils in the creeks, & weathering out of the ground.
Come up next week & we'll go searching on a river, maybe do a little 'panning' for color.
(Scotto lives down a ways in AR, we get together when we can).
