i went out today and surveyed an old campsite on the beal wagon road.
there was a spring here, and the travelers spread out over about 50 acres of flat when they camped.
spring is dry...
the campsite has few visible trash piles...i suspect they buried their trash...i did find a few lead sealed tins...sardines...yeck...

found the usual bits of flakes and chard's...
the cave system is dug into a lava flow..the edges of these flows are usually broken and postmarked...so someone carved shelter into the edge of the flow...unfortunately, the highway department buried about 2/3 of the cave system when they placed the road directly on top of the caves...isn't wisdom of engineers difficult to comprehend?

i did not use the detector today....was just a survey...did eyeball one modern horse shoe.
