The Devil's Tea Table in West Virginia

We went to the Devil's Tea Table last weekend, I dug up many antique pull tabs, modern beer cans, a 1993 Quarter, and a 30.06 Springfield shell casing.

The confluence of Rock Run and the Little Kanawha river was a busy spot in the pioneer days. My great-great Grandparents landed their flatboat there and dismantled it to start their first home. There are names and dates on the rocks from the 1800s to present, and a prominent preacher once gave a sermon from the top of the Tea Table, as recorded in the county history.

I've left out some pics that I felt weren't good enough and had to pare them down to 12 pics total. I promise to try and get back in the Fall when the leaves aren't so thick and my legs in good enough shape to climb up onto the Tea Table.

One day we were at the beach there and heard a small bell. It kept getting closer, until finally, a deer and Rottweiler waded across the river and headed on upriver. :D

The white critter in two of the pics is Lucy, the wonder dog, aka Goose, Goose Buggy, Bug, Buggy, or Buggy Girl. She will answer to any of those.

In the right of one pic you'll see my quirky ole MD and trench shovel.

Not to this location,
But many times to similar places.
These kind of things are the kind I make a special trip for.
Where ever they are.

I am sure your cousins will enjoy them very much.

You're right Thom, I make special trips to get to the same types of places.

Thanks Tn, those spots of light could be called windows, when the leaves are off, you can see the LK river way down below.

The one pic labeled DTT up through, is taken from inside, looking up.

A deer and a Rotweiller waded across and took off upriver? Man, there's got to be a story behind that and it would be cool if we knew it. That's a cool place, great pics.

Re: The Devil's Tea Table in West Virginia

Glad you enjoyed it naturegirl!

RG- The best I can come up with is that someone found an orphan fawn, bottle fed and raised it, it became friends with the family Rottweiler, then they put an orange collar and bell on the deer ahead of deer season.

The pair came down the hill, waded the river, then headed up the road. I've got it on video, I'll see if I can lift some stills from it. They walked right among us all to get where they wanted to be.

Re: The Devil's Tea Table in West Virginia

Hello, and glad you enjoyed the pics, I had fun making them. The Grandkid's and Lucy the Wonder Dog kept us worried until we got back down to the path.

Lucy is the greatest, I need to have her cloned!
