The Blazing Star(Liatris) is in bloom on the prairie right now and is absolutely beautiful!!
There are also lots of damselflies around the ponds and creeks. We think this damselfly is a "Blue-Fronted Dancer".
My daughter took these pics while we were going to the creek to arrowhead hunt.
Hope you enjoy!

I always liked Liatris, they come out around July 4th and remind me of fireworks . Great shot on that damselfly. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks DigginThePast! Liatris is one of our favorite summer flowers, too. I always enjoy researching wildflowers of the prairies and have a book that tells what medicinal purposes they have.
This one (dotted blazing star or liatris punctata) says the root can be used for food, to treat stomachache, and as a poultice to reduce swelling.

Thanks TAKODA and RGINN! That little damselfly was the prettiest blue color! The kids like to learn the names of all the different bugs we see. We try to make every trip to the woods a learning experience :read2:.

You are fortunate to live in such beautiful country, even if it is full of flies. ;D

That made us laugh, Kentucky Kache! :laughing9: :tongue3: You know I bet the fish would really be biting on those things right now since there's so many around the creeks and ponds.
Thanks for the comments!

Thanks Leslie! I think dragonflies and Damselflies are "terrors" on mosquitos and gnats. With those big eyes they could be a major predator ;D.

They sure do have good eyesight. When I was a kid I always tried to shoot one with my Red Ryder BB gun. They are faster than a speeding BB, that's for sure ;D!........NGE
