My daughter took this picture today. At first we couldn't figure out what it was. This fly had a red wasp in its clutches and was eating it! Kinda wild looking insect--looks like a cross between a dragonfly and a horse fly. I think these things are great since they kill wasps ;D.
Here's some info on Robber flies: http://www.thaibugs.com/Articles/robber fly facts.html

If you're squeamish, don't look!

I have always wondered about that bug.
I just figured it was some kind of mutant dragon fly.
Thanks for the pics and info.

OmegaMan--I've always wondered about that bug too, but it took my daughter taking a picture of it to get us to research as to what kind it was. Funny looking creature!
