Out & About Today

It's still too 'snaky & ticky' to get off the main roads & trails, so I took a drive in the mts.
I saw a King snake, bug trails on wood, Mt creek, flowers, broken arrowhead, frog pond, etc..........

I zoomed it in a little too far, but it was about two & a half ft long.

Nice pics, and nice day. Nice day here, up in the 70's. Went over to Half-Moon Gulch and searched for Jesse James. But didn't find him.

Re: Out & About Today

When I looked at the snake picture, I thought that it looked like that snake recently ate a snake. He is kind of uniformly thick until the last few inches. I was reading the comments and saw the note that the King snake eats poisonous snakes. Is it my imagination or is it possible that he just had lunch?

After you bringing that to my attention, I think you are right, it seems the snake just had a meal of another snake.

Always enjoy your photographs! I also notice the bulging body on your King Snake and agree that it just might have recently had a big meal.
I had the pleasure of watching a Eastern King Snake eat a Water Snake a few years back when my pond was nearly dried up during a drought and only wish I had a photo or two to show the forum, but I think I never got to preserve that special event with one....

Thanks Don, too bad you didn't get the pic, I once pulled a snake out of the other snake, & they both crawled away, guess I shouldn't have tampered with Nature.

I have to go through my old photos from the 80s in the future, I am sure I have one of a dead water snake laying next to a pond, what was neat about the snake was, he had two spines sticking out of his body, about 1/3 the way down from the head. Evidently the snake swallowed a Catfish and the Catfish may have lost the first battle but the snake was also a big time loser in the end! :D

Thats because he was down here in Texas at El Sal Del Rey. I had a couple of beers with him before he went off to dig up Maximillians Gold. The SOB would not take me. They always said Jessie was high strung.
