Rug Rats & Wood Rats

I took my little 'Rug Rat Grandson', & my Great-Nephew out for a 'Nature Outing' today, we threw grasshoppers in the creek & watched the fish hit them , found a Wood Rat nest, & he ran up a tree.
We cut bamboo hiking sticks then went to a mt stream & hunted Herkimers & fossil rocks, also found a hog jaw.
We ate some pears I brought along when we got hungry, & we found some 'strange little bugs' eating a katydid. :icon_scratch: we walked about a mile & a half, & found a tree with very strange bark, (gotta check my book) had a Great day out. :icon_sunny:

No it wasn't a scaley bark hickory, it had leaves that looked like 'fern leaves', I couldn't find it in my tree book, one tree we had to avoid was the (eastern hophornbeam), they grow along & in the streambeds of the mts, & if you brush against the leaves, you will itch for hours, the fruit clusters resemble (hops), I just looked it up. :tongue3: here's a pic.
I hope they have 'fond memories' with Grandpa.

Ain't it funny Fossis? The "famous" people are just statues and names; the really "great" people are our Grandpas!!

As always fossis some great photo's, and its great to see the kids enjoying it as well. Always to be encouraged, there seem to be so many kiddies glued to a T.V. or those "games" that I don't really know the name of.. :hello:.... :hello2:

Thanks, it is a 'hard thing' sometimes getting them away, but when they do they have a great time. :icon_sunny:

It's nice to look at those pics after drivin to Denver today in the snow. Wasn't bad after we got out of the tunnel and made it to Georgetown. People drove too fast or drove too slow; we stayed in between. Saw a few in the ditch, all out of state tags but nobody hurt. And I must say, that's a fine shirt.

We are finally getting the rain we needed to fill up the creeks, & looks like the weather is changing all over,
glad you stayed in the road.
I used to be a big sports fan, (mostly football), but now I could care less who wins what. :dontknow:
