That's what you get for living in Coldorado instead of sunny Wisconsin! :icon_sunny:

Hehheh, you just shake your head and laugh at us 'flatlanders' don't you? and I thought the -17 here this morning was bad. Technical question: Your pics really reflect the temps up there. The blues are the coldest I've seen in pictures. When I try to catch cold shadows here, they look balmy. Is it your nice camera, the actual atmosphere, or something you do?

lisa

oh yeah, you can keep your 3 more months of winter, the peepers will be singin' here in a few nights, 60's by Monday.

3 months of winter ??? Yes, probably for you :laughing7: Going to be in the 40's by weekend. I guess you have to love it in Colorado or you wouldn't be there, right ???

Hahaha! Yeah some days ng, I like to pretend I'm Jeremiah Johnson and shake my head at you pilgrims and flatlanders. However, I realize that a dead 17 below in Oklahoma would turn out to be equal to maybe 60 below here. We're not used to the cold, but we are better prepared for it. (Water pipes are buried at 4 ft. deep.) As to that blue in the pics. I never paid much attention to it until you mentioned it, but it is there. I am not a camera expert. However, it has a lot to do with the particular time of day you shoot. A raw image will be gray, but the blue is in there, and you can bring it out with a little color saturation of the photo. The camera can be set to do this, and I have a photo program with my printer that I can bring it up with. I have a UV filter on the lens too, so that might help. I don't really know all the technical aspects, but I do know what I like, and I always like bright colors. And I once had a pair of bright red crushed velvet bellbottoms that I wore to school. And got sent home for.

Ok. color saturation, I'll pay attention to that, my camera is pretty simple, but I haven't learned all about it yet. Bright red crushed velvet bellbottoms? ;D You're lucky just getting sent home was all they did.

Last Wednesday it had warmed up to 34 below by 7 a.m. The high for the day was -2. Snow has almost buried our post office. Spring is on the way; it was only 15 below this a.m.
Wow RGINN, I thought about getting some ice cream, but after seeing those pic's, I'll stick with my cup of Coffee :laughing7: Beautiful pics, in a freezing cold kinda way :icon_sunny: Paul :coffee2:

I don't know how you stand it, RGINN.....We've had two weeks of this stuff and I'm ready to holler "calf-rope" ;D . My husband has had a crash course on plumbing and heater repair(had water pipes burst and our central heat quit in the middle of the night). Its been crazy cold! I'm ready for sunshine and 90 degrees!
Beautiful pics!

I used to love winter. Used to... ;D

As for the blue in the pics - just the lighting of the day. Raw image would most likely be more gray. All the shooting I do, I never shoot RAW - takes up way too much space and I get plenty of resolution from my cameras as is (I'm not shooting with $5000 equipment either). The UV filter does some good but it protects the lens more than anything. When shooting outdoors - especially in snowy/bright sunlight/high reflection conditions, get yourself a circular polarizer (not a cheapo either). It is the greatest tool you have in your camera bag as far as outdoor shooting goes... :icon_thumright:

That reminds me - check your Auto White Balance as well. Sometimes a massive scene of white will throw it for a loop... :icon_thumright:

Beautiful pics!

We had pipes freeze where they came out of the ground into a bldg twice, although they didn't burst, but i dug away the dirt, packed them with sawdust, covered with a tarp, & problem solved this go round.
Sandcreek, I haven't heard the term (Calf-rope) in years. :P

Calf rope!! That made my day. When I saw it I figured they wouldn't be 3 people besides me knew what it meant. When I was little, my Uncle used to tickle me and wouldn't stop til I hollered 'Calf Rope!', so I guess it's the provincial equivalent of saying uncle. Thanks for the info, DD-777. I never shoot in RAW mode, but might if I had a high dollar photo lab. I shoot in idiot mode on the Canon Rebel and it comes out alright. I'd like to get that polarizer lens though. Time of day is very important, and sunup to about 10am, then after 3pm is usually best up here. It's hard to take a bad pic up here, but I have done it. I like my people pics better than the scenery pics actually, but it confuses people when I tell them 'Do not look at this camera while I'm shooting'.

Let me know what size filter your main lens uses - I might have an extra I can send "out Colorady way"... ;D
