After a 21 day incubation period, these little beautys arrived.
I had an incubator (borrowed from Scotto), with 30 eggs, plus some more I bought, I set 51, & came out with 35, one more is still trying to hatch, around 80 % is the norm in an incubator, mother hens are hard to beat. :icon_scratch:, but i'me a 'proud Papa' today, (sorry no cigars). ::)

Pretty good hatch. Do you remember when you could order chicks through the mail, and they would come to the post office and the mailman would deliver them. That's probably contrary to some law now. Be sure and get some guinea hens, as they take care of the grasshoppers real good.

I can't figure out why my guineas aren't laying yet...everything else is 2-3 weeks early due to the early spring temps here. But even if they were on "regular scheduled laying time" I should have had eggs from them for at least 2-3 weeks now. Weird. ???

I remember that well, now they stay in the post office until you pick them up.

Maybe this 'up & down' weather has them confused. :P

That's for sure, i put feed in, its gone in seconds.
The quineas around here sell for $4.00 each as babies, & one sold at auction (grown one), for $12.00. :icon_scratch:
So i'll raise some to sell, & keep a few laying hens.

congrats fossis! Fun ain't it? RGINN, you can still get them in the mail. I had 20 shipped to me last December. They didn't even call me, a guy made a special trip to deliver them right to the house. I ordered from efowl.com. Neat site. Still got all 20.

It sure is a 'good hobby', I got eggs from three places, not sure of some, they will be mixed breeds.
I will probably eat some, keep a few hens, & maybe sell some.

I am going to keep a log book, counting costs & profit for the year, & see how I do, the biggest drawback is the cost of feed, with corn being so high priced.

Great pic :icon_thumleft:, what do you do with them?. Yes I know it's a stupid question, but I would raise them to eat, and some would raise them for eggs. What are you going to do?
