Really sorry to hear of your loss, having been there on several occasions......A beloved pet is a family member and the loss can be hard.........

I raised Boxers for over 20 years and know how special a pet can be....I owned 7 Boxers over the 20 years and every one was special with their on special personality, a couple even saved me when I was threatened during a couple robbery attempts and in danger of being attacked....

Wish you the best.......

dog freinds are often better freinds than people freinds at times - and they never ask to borrow money either.

Re: A sad day, my shadow had to leave me :'(

To my dearest daddy,

Some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more pain or sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
Although I had to leave you, for my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you.

It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest daddy, well he’ll, be here later on.
I want you right here with me, you're part of my eternal plan.
There's room for all creation, just like our mortal man."

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
So now I am contented.... my life has been worthwhile,
knowing that you loved me and how I made you smile.

When you're walking down the street, with me on your mind;
Remember, I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,

remember you're not going........you're coming home to me.

Love Always,

Your Kodabear

Re: A sad day, my shadow had to leave me :'(

My condolences. That is never easy. Our only comfort is knowing we gave what we could. And they always were ok with who we were.

The Power of a Dog
Rudyard Kipling

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
But when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie--
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years that nature permits
Are closing in asthma or tumors or fits
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers, or loaded guns.
Then you will find--its your own affair
But--you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will
When the whimper of welcome is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone--wherever it goes--for good,
You still discover how much you care
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We've sorrow enough in the natural way
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em the more do we grieve;
For when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short time loan is as bad as a long--
So why in Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

My condolences on your loss.

Having gone through this myself - my words can only be limited - because I cannot see the computer keys through the tears.

Nothing dies that lives in your heart.

Beth said a mouthful. I'd add only this: love is never wrong. Your shadow will join you again, and you both will be made whole.

Re: A sad day, my shadow had to leave me :'(

This brings back sad memories of losing my "Gizmo" seventeen months ago. I still miss him, probably always will. I found this poem somewhere on the internet (can't remember where) I liked it and would like to share it with you. (Darn computer screen keeps getting blurry) Here it is:

Last Night

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.

I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,

"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,

You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.

I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.

I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.

I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.

I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.

To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...

In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning

and say "goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,

I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

:'( So sorry to hear of your loss, it's so hard to lose a pet, especially when they are like your children. Your Shadow looked like a wonderful dog! We are still getting over losing our "Shadow", we lost him back in September, he was my therapy cat and was always there for me, even on my bucket or very painful days, he was always there! :'( Your in our thought's and prayers. Re: A sad day, my shadow had to leave me :'(

I want to thank you all for you kind words & thoughts.

Beth, hope the pics didn't upset you too much & you are right.

Peachy & Gizmo your poems left us both(myself&wife) in a mess, but it helps thank you.

Calisdad: Kipling hit the nail on the head, but I'll do it again even knowing that the ending is inevitable.

Chug I know how your feel, she helped see me though after my back surgery and the mess that entailed.

RR that's a beautiful picture & poem.

I still find myself lookin' to the window next to the door when I come home, her place to wait(impatiently) for me to get to the door.

Our little one will always live on in our hearts & memory.

Never had a dog treat me wrong. In my whole life only had one try to bite me, and I probably deserved it. Sorry about your friend.
