Grandson's first fish ever

My grandson has been livin with us in the US for about a year and never been fishin in his life. He expressed an interest so I hooked him up with a rod and reel, and a lure guaranteed to catch trout. He took to it pretty well with a little guidance and flailed away and finally caught a small trout. 15 years old and never been fishin. These pics ain't much of nothin to look at, but I just wanted to crow a little bit and share it with somebody. I consider it a milestone in my life and think I done good. My grin was bigger than his. My grandpa taught me how to fish and I caught my first one when I was almost 5. A bluegill. It was about 4 feet long and weighed close to a 100 lbs., if memory serves me right.

Like you said, that fish will gain a pound a year. That smile on his face probably equaled the one on your face. It's great to introduce a young man to the great outdoors and teach him what it really means.Kudos to you!

good job rginn. Now you gotta get the speakers out of his ears so you can talk to each other.
A few years back I was fishing with my granddaughter. There was a guy there with his son that looked to be about 13 or so. After a bit the kid got his line all rat nested in the reel and the "dad" did nothing but cuss at the kid and tell him badly he had screwed things up. I had to bite my tongue to keep from telling the guy he should have taken him a little more often when he was a lot younger. All 3 of my boys were fishing by 5 and by the time they were 8 or 9 they were taking care of their own equipment with very little assistance.

Re: Grandson's first fish ever

Great job gramps. I remember my first fish, my mom taught me how to fish. It was only a lowly carp, but it was fun to catch, it weighed in at 10lbs. and almost pulled my 6 years old body in with it. Take him withyou any chance you get, treasure anything he catches, fishing is good for all............NGE
