One more---This is an old railroad culvert under the Midland Valley Railroad tracks that used to come across the prairie. Its really something to me that these are still standing--they've been there for many years and haven't collapsed yet!

Thanks Peachy! The pump jack and the bald hill close-up has some kind of overlay effect she used---it makes them look like old pictures---kinda weathered or something.
:hello:

People used to be craftsmen and take pride in their work---You just don't see that much anymore! Those old culverts will probably still be standing long after my bones have gone back to the earth.

Very nice effects and the pics came out great. That culvert reminds me of some of the old WPA (we piddle around) construction. Or CCC. Those guys built stuff that will be around long after we're all forgotten.

We found a couple of those CCC erosion control places here on the Preserve after a spring burn---I had no idea these things were even there. The CCC boys were masters of erosion control! Those rocks look just the same today as I'm sure they looked when they laid them out.
Thanks RGINN! :hello:

sand creek is this preserve where the buffalo roam?
Yes, we have approx 2,500(+/-) head of bison(buffalo). My husband is a cowboy on the Preserve.
Have you ever been up to this part of the state, Roy?
The first group of pictures (of the cattle and the hills) was taken a little further north and west of the Preserve--it really opens up to wide open prairie the further north and west you go. You can see why the Osage Indians wanted this for their reservation!

Hello, Sandcreek, Very nice pics. She is really developing her skill as a photographer.
I like the close-up of the steer's face and th second one of the culvert. Looking at the
stones and seeing how level and nicely they fit together demonstrates the old rule that
was followed by the stone masons in building the dry stone walls.

It was Two on one--one on two.

Thanks for sharing.

Josie is developing her skills and sees things that I would never see unless she took the picture of it. She loves these hills where we live and enjoys all the beautiful wildlife we have, even the steers are photogenic to her.
I'm glad you enjoyed the culvert pictures, too--if only they could talk! I wonder how many trains went across those culverts and how many cattle were shipped off of the prairie over those railroad tracks above them. They are truely a piece of history! and proof that those stone masons were artists and their work can withstand the tests of time.

Thank you Ray for the comments.

Carmon

My home, my heart!! Beautiful Josie :icon_thumleft: I love the stonework too, Osage State Park has extensive CCC work, I never get tired of the sandstone, except when flint hunting :laughing9:. How about some blizzard pictures? I bet they would melt! Y'all have a cool holiday in the pool! :hello:
