While on our trip to Pa, we visited Gettysburg, we took the vehicle tour with a DVD explaining what happened at every stop, we stood on top of 'Little Round Top', drove by the 'Wheat Field' where so many died that the field was covered in blood.
One barn has a 'cannonball hole' from the battle, it is still being used by a family who lives on private property, over a million items were recovered from the battlefield, with several on display in the Museum.
It was a 'very sobering' experience to see this battleground where so many gave their lives.

Sad war that one.
Do they even let you walk on the battlefield?
I have some relatives that supposedly died there but are buried in Danby, NY. I've often wondered if they are actually buried at Gettysburg and it's just a memorial in Danby.

It sure was, we walked from the parking lot to the top of 'Little Round Top', & you could walk in the rocks known as 'The Devils Den', so I guess there are no restrictions anywhere else.
I wanted to tour the cemetary where so many were buried, but darkness came too soon that day.

The locals will honestly tell you at night they can hear screams still coming from those battle fields. :-\

I wanted to spend more time there, but had to move on, i've heard it is a 'most haunted place'.
