The most intersting way to enter Death Valley is through this 27 mile one-way dirt road . Altough most of the time 4 WD is not required it is still not for the faint of heart . You will drive along with sheer cliffs lurking just a couple feet away as you climb up to 5,250 feet Red Pass and then down in to a narrow canyon with towering walls just big enough to get your truck through . But if you crave adventure like I do ..... this is the way to go ! Note . I went in early April but as I write this post it is 114° in Las Vegas , NV and 124° ( 52 Celsius ) at Furnance Creek , Death Valley . CA at 5:03 PM Pacific Standard Time . Be cool everyone ! Hoss

Have made that same drive several times and how interesting that every time I make it I see something different. Also time of day ie late evening or early morn the views changes... and be sure to stop by the ghost town (Leadville) on that same trek, but dont take the detector, bad mojo if you get caught mding in the National Park.
