My son and I raise our own beef and we just had one butchered. I got my half back from the butcher yesterday and it filled a large freezer. My half totalled 285 lbs. of cut and wrapped meat including 160 1-pound packs of burger. The rest is a tri-tip, some roasts, steaks and ribs. This will last my household over a year. The top shelf of the freezer has some fish etc. and there is also beef in the door. There are a few containers of homemade salsa in the pic.

If you don't mind, how much is the butchering cost to have done? I have seen the mobile trucks that come to you and do the entire job and packaging on site. Makes me hungry!

Bottom line the butchering cost about $1.37 per pound. They say they charge $.85 per pound but that's hanging weight. My half weighed 461.5 pounds so it cost me $392. After cutting away fat etc. I ended up with 285 lbs but it still cost $392.
