I also learnt very quickly to look at the tail first, especially in murky water!
(shark - vertical. Dolphin - horizontal)

Neither, I was on my boat and spotted them in the distance - I cut the engine and drifted, and got in the water with my camera. luckily they were not spooked and swam with me for a few mins, and I was lining up for another shot and one slid up under me - mind-blowing!

I bet it was mind blowing. We saw some while fishing last week but our water is WAAAAY too cold to climg into without a wetsuit. I've never seen them while diving.

Fantastic! In my next life I am living on a beach. In the meantime thanks for the info on being able to tell them from sharks, for some reason it just seems like something I want to know.
