Got some Catepillers....wondering what they'll be?

We have this tree with grape vines on it (a lot do here) and the catepillers seem to really love this certain one, found 3 different types on it and was wondering what they'll turn into?





Found these near the ground.....



And some more butterflies....just so amazing what they turn into.





....sorry left the R out of Caterpiller in the heading....:O

That yellow,black and white one will turn into a monarch,I have pics I took years ago of them from egg to butterfly.

Great shots, Kat. You've got enough pictures to start an insect museum.!! lol I love 'em! The black butterfly is one I don't remember seeing before. Quite beautiful.

Tamrock, that was the first thing that struck my mind. I looked to see if it had the 'horn' that I've seen on them. Not seeing the horn, I'm not sure.

worldtalker....I think you're right, think the "horn" that texasred mentioned is there but not seen very well.

texasred.....thanks, maybe one day I'll have enough.lol Like I said to worldtalker, I think the horn is there but the picture is not showing it well? Is there another caterpillar that looks like this one without the horn? We do have a lot of Monarchs hatching here.

I'm can't say there are others without horns that look about the same. I'm just not sure. I seem to remember some but that's been a long time ago and the old brain isn't quite what it used to be. lol I really like the part of Mike's signature that says what I miss the most is my mind.

More bugs? That's ok, because the "flutter-bys"(my 4 year old neighbor girl's word) are beautiful.Just hope they all turn out that beautiful and that one of them is not a Martian that will hatch and eat your face!

I may be wrong (again) but your first three caterpillars may be variations of the Hawkmoth.

The 2nd butterfly after the Monarch is a Sylvan Hairsteak.The red and black with the white dots is a Red Admiral. I think some of the caterpillars may be Moths and cut worms.
I have a lot of pocket additions of guide books is how I looked them up. Always great pics Kat. My new play camera just came in. I hope to share some of mine too!

I had a teacher in grade school, that told the class to put a cocoon in a jar, with certain leaves, and talk to it as much as possible.

She said if you repeat a name over and over, you can call it back to you after it emerges.

I tried it....I think maybe she was just playing a little joke on us.

Gold Maven....thanks for that sweet story! Even though your teacher might have been "story telling", it probably was exciting for you kids at the time.
