South Fork of the South Platte

Camped here in the Weston Pass area along the South Fork again and a much calmer outing, no thunderstorms. 60 in the day and 27 at night with frost. Panned the creek and removed a lot of black sand and mica flakes so the next guy has a cleaner workplace.

Pretty much the norm for the high alpine country, ck. I have seen it down in the 30's in June and July with snow at the higher altitudes, which is why I carry extra firewood for Texans. This campsite is a little lower than the last one, but still above 10,000ft. Here where we live at 9100ft. it's up in the 60's in the day and low 40's high 30's at night. After you've lived here awhile, temps in the 30's particularly in winter are T-shirt weather.

Wonderful pictures, RGINN. Beautiful country. Love to see it some day.
As for 'cold', not yet here, but we've been in the upper 40s (48 yesterday morning) and lower 50s (52 this morning) for the last several mornings. Today's high was to be 73, yesterday's high was about 90, but the 4 or 5 days before was in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Well...RGINN....you are way up there aren't you! You actually live at 9100ft.? Your lungs must be pretty awesome. We're at 5000ft, once went to mt. Lemon in AZ (don't recall how high it is?) , and had a bit of a hard time breathing, it was winter so cold air on top of it. I think your "inners" must match your "outters" (picture)...a mountain man for sure!

I couldn't even go to that height! I was at about 7100 feet about 4 or 5 years ago and had trouble breathing. Now I have trouble at anywhere over 4000! I was at about 4500 last winter and was using oxygen if I was outside the car and walking around.
