a friend of mine found this rock in a field. Doesnt look like other rocks around here. Has crust on the outside, heavier than it looks. Weighs aprox 240 lbs. metal detector will alarm when passed over but magnet doesnt stick.

Not sure what you have and it may be a stony meteorite
, but I'm am a wondering?? compared to the size of that 5 gal. plastic bucket in the picture of that rock weighing whole 240 pound?.. That rusted thing looks like the spark buildup found behind locomotive wheel that fall off on the tracks from time to time. You probably should post your inquiry in the 'what is it' forum also.
