Not to be confused with Castle Rock on the front range. Just west of Trout Creek Pass in Chaffee County. Nice country for hiking around. Observed quite a bit of red and yellow jasper lying around. Prehistoric people came to this area and quarried it for tool making, and I've seen pieces of this same material they left all over the middle part of Colorado. Saw quite a few deer north of Buena Vista and came back through Leadville. Good to see a nice amount of snow that will lessen our fire danger.

Well, that last picture looks familiar. It's like I said. Should be sometime next week I'll be back around the area. Here's a little clue... A native son who was loved by most Americans.

Yep, found the stick. Couple of days earlier and it would have been covered up in snow. Left Tamrock a piece of ore from that open pit mine down by Turtle Rock, so maybe we'll get a definitive answer on what it is.

IDK if it was for Jasper, but there was the Newett Quarry on the N face of the mountain directly across from your fifth photo, according to the DeLorme CO Atlas Pg. 60 B 2 - 3.
Always wondered about that white quartz 'pipe' on the N. side of Trout Creek, too.

I know of that quartz outcrop. You familiar with the area?
