just what kind of raptor is that?

Here in Texas some people call Osprey Gohshawks, some people call Golden Eagle's Goshhawks.

I live on Lake Sam Rayburn and the Bald eagles are coming back in a big way but aren't as big as they used to be, and certianly not as big as eagles in the south west,
But the Golden Eagles are huge, there aren't as many of them, and they are much more timid towards people.

Well BIGSCOTT, it is a Finnish Goshawk, native to Europe, although there are North American Goshawks. Ospreys and eagles aren't goshawks, as that's a whole different breed. I have heard people call other birds 'goshhawks' though. Osprey and bald eagles are water birds mainly, and historically they didn't hang out on the plains much until they started putting in all the lakes. They prefer to hunt fish. Golden eagles are plains hunters. When you look at historic pictures of plains Indians, the feathers they wear are from the Golden Eagle, because at the time that was the dominant raptor on the plains.
