My wife and I made a trip up to the big horns this last week for our honeymoon. And had a great time. One of the things I love is gold prospecting and i have done a little research on the lost cabin mine. While we were up there. I was doing some panning in otter. Adjustment to crazy woman creek. In crazy woman canyon and was finding alot of color. As I was working up the stream I fell upon two different mine shaft one with the right geological formations that show the string of gold.:-) I can not say it is the lost cabin mine but we have made the steps to put on a 160 acre claim. Check with BLM it has not be claimed at all.

:hello: Welcome to TNET!

That's quite an elusive treasure, glad to hear you did your homework and found some color.

No picture. ??? BTW thanks for the tip

I do not think it is wise to post too many photo's of the immediate area of your search unless you want locals who may know the area, and claim-jumpers spoiling your chances of success. Keep an eye out for the charred remains of the old log cabin (may have been half dugout/cabin), and don't forget a good metal detector so you can try and find those buried sacks of gold nuggets. Good Luck on your next trip down in there.

Hey there mschlaht, Welcome!. I didn't catch that you've just jointed up for all the fun. I too have read some on the lost cabin mine and I drive by that area from time to time. It's sure pretty country, but winters are sure something else. To me the state of Wyoming is one of favorite places to visit. Sure hope things pan out for ya up there. Good Luck:thumbsup:

Def will not post pictures. Until claim is set in stone. Good news we found the cabin and two grave sights. We're going to set it up for archaeology studies and get it all staked out.

You can post some pics without worry. Just make sure they're framed such as there are no identifying features in the background. Color in the pan, color in the stream, pic inside the mine shaft; those are types of pics that won't give away location. If that's on BLM land, I wish you the best of luck on gettin your claim filed. Those rascals can be...difficult.

If you do post any, exclude enough of the scenery, get in close with photos. I know of a gold prospector, that discovered someone attached a gps tracking device to his wheel....no telling what those guys will do.

Thank you so much. We were up there today and had a guy watching us. We have all markers in place and game trail cameras, our markers have our claim number on it as well with a no claiming aloud sign. We did really good and will be up there quite a bit with what we pulled in.

What exactly are we looking at in the pan? How large was your sample to produce those concentrates? How much did you find? I'm a young prospector in WY myself and would love to see the place if you would allow. I do lots of prospecting in South Pass. Really going to hit it hard next summer! Looking forward to your updates!

Wow! You have found quite the spot! Is that coming from river gravels or hard rock?
