Darn sure interesting. I love that sort of stuff. I was hunting in the high desert of eastern Oregon, over near Beatty's Butte, and ran smak into a bunch of drawings on the rocks near a spring. Quit hunting and went and got my camera and spent the rest of the day taking pictures and exploring around.

Good to hear from you TerryC. Those are pictographs from the Barrier Canyon culture, who hung out here from about 6,000 to 100 B.C. Farther south of here along Highway 313 at Seven Mile Canyon there's another pictograph of three figures that I found. Same people did this one, but I can find no documentation that anybody besides me has ever found it or took pics of it. Strange thing, right now the History Channel has another one of those ancient aliens programs on, and showed some of the same glyphs. Of course they said they were depictions of 'ant people' and aliens from another planet. My theory is they had guys in that culture who were really averse to a lot of physical labor, so they called themselves holy men, used a lot of that moonflower that grows wild there, pretty much stayed stoned all the time, and painted what they saw in their hallucinations. They could earn their keep by throwin out a prediction or two from time to time. Same type people in all cultures since the beginning, I guess.

One of those Utah canyons had been closed off to using the trails for recreation and dirt bikes. Archaeologist were afraid artifacts might be damaged or vandalism to the pictographs.

Thanks Red desert. That last pic looks like a pictorial calendar history in a way, but not from a tribe I'm familiar with. I am very familiar with the Kiowa calendar histories, know the decsendants of the guys who made the main ones, and those calendars are remarkable. (One is particularly remarkable to me cause it records when they got all those silver dollars from those traders in a fight out in the Texas Panhandle! Doesn't mentioned where they probably buried some of them, though.)

Some of those triangular NA are not much different than the most ancient Phoenician and Hebrew alphabet characters. Here is a Gezer calendar from the Mideast, experts don't know for sure if it is Hebrew or Phoenician but the Israel has claimed it. Notice in the cropped section, a couple of the characters are triangular, one a triangle with a line, another has almost like legs below as the NA dancer symbol.
