The ''OLD'' Million Dollar Highway

I found this photo that was titled the Million Dollar Highway between Quray and Silverton. If I am correct this is in Colorado?

And if you broke down this is how you were towed back to civilization and the garage.

Looks like that road isn't for the faint of heart. Neat old pictures!

Absolutely! You wouldn't want to lose a wheel.

I've always wondered about those one lane roads up in spots like that. What do you do if you meet someone?

And I'm seriously afraid of heights!

I think that's the old Red Mountain Pass. The roads have been improved from those days. This is a road out of Ouray I'd take to the Camp Bird mine. That old ford of mine is still at it with 329,000 on it. I was up your way today OD. What's up with the wind??.

What wind? lol! Just a little incentive for better gas mileage on the way home. It also pushes all that moisture quickly to the east so we don't get too hammered with a lot of snow, just the mountains catch a little.

So trure!.. I'm barely putting my foot on the gas going home.

Awesome pic, I have been on the "new" million dollar highway out of Ouray. Still kinda scary if you are pulling a tow trailer or fifth wheel. There is one spot where a huge rock juts out and it is tight for trailer of any size (by the way, I saw several big rigs driving this road). I was told that in several places that over the side was about 1000' to the bottom and if you went over they would get you but not your car. I took an alternate route to the Four Corners area when we left that area.

Really did enjoy the pic and glad we are not there now days.
