I know nothing about those, but interesting looking fish!

I've never seen one and yes, it is interesting. But I'm gonna stick to the Rio Grande perch in the creeks around here...

The best bottom fish we have are Ling Cod and Greenling. Nothing better. Salmon, Rock Cod, Halibut Snapper. Steelhead from our rivers also very good. There are 4 rivers within 30 miles, two are famous for salmon, Steelhead and cutthroat trout.

Congratulations! That's a sizable Vermillion Rock Cod. I sometimes catch one or two whilst going after the prized Lings. Thinking about going out again on Sunday. May take my camera to record results.

best fishing I ever did was weak fishing in Peconic Bay Long Island N.Y.
Monster blues are fun also and keeper striped bass are always memorable.

those last ones were weakfish caught in the late '70s when you could go out on a weekly basis and have a catch like that.
Now you'de be lucky to catch one in a month.
at that point we would use light tackle and landing it with a net is a must.

Nice Fish! I think that Vermilion qualifies as a "Slab side" like the BIG Chinooks - not much longer, but putting on the deep belly.

That's what I would have done, but no.....It was their dinner.
It was a charter boat and everyone limited out, mostly big Ling Cod.

Went fishing with a friend several years ago in the channel between L.A. and Catalina. Looked like we had been fishing in Alaska when we got back. Had three Halibut and three Salmon.

Those Rio Grande cichlids are fun as hell on about a 4 weight flyrod!

The best place for Halibut around here USED to be about a mile offshore from the San Onofre Nuclear Power Station. It was where they ended the pipeline for the warm water they pumped back into the ocean. The biggest we ever found there was an 80 pound barn door. Granted it had five eyes and could speak French, but it WAS an eighty pound Halibut. Listening to it scream in French as I was cleaning it was kinda hard, but I endured! Got four BIG steaks, and I learned a little French. All in all, a good day!

Vermilion are pretty good eating also. We catch them at Ft Bragg, CA along with lings and cabezon.

Cabezon, black snapper and Ling cod are great! We can catch them fishing from the rocks. You have to cast out as far as possible in to the kelp beds. Massive pole and heavy line. Perch also, easy surf fishing but they are for fish tacos only....in my book.

We also catch China cod, blacks and blues and make fish tacos with those. Mighty tasty camp meat!!
