One of the side benefits of doing most of my hunting in the woods and carrying a camera is taking photos of the different mushrooms, fungi and any interesting pieces of wood, etc.
I have some good old photos of several different fungi growths, just have to locate them or wait till later this year and hope to get a new group of photos with the new camera.
So, here are two that I photographed last year.

The first one was right in front of my property, and darn it, they are not nice ones to have, I believe they are called Stinkhorns, and for a very good reason, when they start to decay they have a strong non pleasant odor.

The second photo is just a nice growth on one of the trees, photo was taken at one of my favorite old Iron forge sites, just down the road.

I seriously doubt it, even the deer leave them alone! :)

*pulls out his Audubon Mushrom guide*

The bottom one looks like "Ling Chih", which is a Chinese delicacy. Looks like something has taken a few bites out of it.

I can't identify the top one based on what I see, but all "coral-types" are edible.

(Disclaimer, don't eat the things based on this info, heh)

Re: Fungi Photos

This photo is from a couple of years ago, and I have never seen this what I think is called a Coral type mushroom again. I have to revisit the area again sometime in hopes of photographing it with the new camera. :)

Here is a link explaining about the first mushroom , the stinkhorn, NOT ediblie. :)

Those are really cool shots....those stinkhorns look like someone threw some peppers on the ground! lol I don't think I would wanna try the taste NOR the smell! The last shot there looks more like a sea anenome then a fungi...so very cool to see how many forms they take! Thanks so much for sharing the photos as well as the knowledge! :D

Now what I would do is cover this in elmers glue > let it dry, then cover it with clear varnish at least 5 times ;D Then take it home as a great mushroom sculpture ::)
