Was down in the Pikes Peak region yesterday with a long associated comrade of 20 years from Ariz, to do some cold calling at the biggest gold mine in the state. The weather was outstanding and the prospect call was somewhat successful. There in Cripple Creek we meet a couple of pan handlers looking for handouts.

Neat country the PP area is. Pretty quiet it was in CCV yesterday. We took the Tarryall creek road back to Denver. I so like that slow route through there.

I know. That would be a good one. Still they gotta load all those holes and I couldn't wait for that.

Love those pan handlers. Did you have any "mush" for them?

When they load those holes, do they use diesel and fertilizer, or is that to old fashioned?

Nice pic of the Utes. Those panhandlers looking to have their ears scratched or just food?

I cant say what any mines are using, but anfo is CHEAP and still just as effective, especially in this application.

A granola bar is all I had. I could tell they really like those, cuz those have honey, oats, cranberries and almonds. I buy them in bulk from Costco and I like em also.

Pretty sure most places have gone to Anfo. I know when I worked on the blasting dept here at the lake they were building that's what the company strictly used. Less mess and is pretty potent if used the right way

I'm not sure, but I believe they'd be using the (ANFO) Ammonia, Nitrate, Fuel, Oil - also called Prill. Last time I was underground they loaded all the face rounds with the Prill. I do sell the Prill Pots that blow the Pill in the holes. Sounds like a slide flute when they fill those blast holes up. These big 8" holes I think the powder supplier company comes in with a big bulk truck with a filler hose and loads and shoots it all.

They are lucky. I remember carrying 50-80 pound bags to each hole and loading. We would have to go to the shack and load up a full bed of a truck with it and go to each hole pouring bag after bag and then tie all det chords together and hide underneath the trackhoe

I was a powder nipper at a mine I worked at and we would huff those bags from a simi truck to little rail box cars you couldn't stand up in and pack those full. I had a list of how many bags I had to take to each powder mag under ground and drive to each and fill them all up to the max level through out the mine, which had 60 miles of track underground. I'll never forget one night on swing shift a truck load was waiting as I got in at 11:30 PM in a down right 10'000 foot in the mountains blizzard. It took 4 of the little box cars to empty that simi truck load and we could only work a few minutes at a time because of the freezing temps and blasting snow. I'd jump up in the cap of that truck drivers rig and warm up some and hit it again. I remember that truck driver had a Polaroid of a nude girl on his visor and he pulled it down and ask me what I think of his girlfriend?. He was pretty proud of her.

Haha. That's awesome. Perverted truckers;) I think we would make about 4 trips to that shack a day to get enough for the shot at the end of the day. We had some crack headed idiot that worked with us that would drive the truck and smoke a cigarette with a full load of Anfo in the back of the truck. Talk about a crappy ride

Hahaha, the good thing about anfo is that it's extremely stable. You couldn't set it off with anything less than a blasting cap (unless it got wet, and then it turns into a time bomb -aka texas city explosion)

Yep. I never had an issue with it. But I guess in the righr conditions it would go off like OKC did
